True, they incorporate dance and such into the movements but they do know how to do the basics like drop spins and such and are good for those.  The more "technical" stuff that AF HG requires would be built on those foundations.

The tough part is getting the male cadets to work with the flag girls without asking for their numbers.

Well, I can say not so true on that.  After many years, over 7, going to NHGA, I have seen way too many cadets say they know the basics from their high school "drill/dance team", only to find they are way behind the 8 ball having to properly learn even the most elementary moves.
