Title: AF SUPTFC-MS
Post by: FNelson on April 30, 2019, 07:56:56 PM
I am going to AF SUPTFC-MS this summer, does anyone have any suggestions on how to prepare and what it takes to do well?

I had to Google "SUPTFC" to learn that it means "Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training Familiarization Course".

Gotta love those acronyms.  :o

I can offer no advice except to absorb as much as possible and have fun.

They are going to tell you to memorize a sheet of technical specifications and procedures for one of the training aircraft (a T-6A Texan, I think - my daughter went, not me) before you arrive.  DO IT!  You might even find yourself helping actual student pilots that are learning that same information while you're there.

And it's not a "new" acronym either. They're been using it for at least 10 years.
Ever since the Air Force changed the name of pilot training from Undergraduate Pilot Training to Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training.
Same bloody course but somebody at HQ AETC got a good OPR bullet for coming up with the new name.

Awesome stuff... I was the Navy lead for the T-6 cockpit design team, back in the mid 90s, and took part (government side, with my USAF partners) for design and flight test of the JPATS aircraft through CDR.  Some of the stuff your cadet memorized was material resulting from our flight test. Two of the team with me were also former CAP cadets.

Ah, how the wheel turns. Some of our current cadets (like me before them) will go on to be flight test engineers and pilots working on future trainers, fighters, bombers and support aircraft.

(Cue "Lion King" soundtrack)

Come with a good attitude prepared to learn. Also come prepared to deal with Mississippi in the summer! :o

One of the most useful skills I got from CAP was being able to memorize stuff. There is a LOT to memorize in military aviation.
BOLD FACE, Critical Action Procedures, Aircraft Limitations. All things you're expected to know from memory.

Have fun! :D

Ugh, Love Bugs.  And as wet as it's been, they are likely to be in full force.

Expect to do a lot of studying and not much sleeping. Especially with the trains rolling by every morning at 0200, assuming SUPTFC-MS is still using the same living facilities as last year.
