Title: The Flat Tire Axiom
Post by: Eclipse on October 22, 2018, 10:19:59 PM
This applies to so much of both CAP, and the discussions here, that I thought it was time to post it.

The Flat Tire Axiom® is based on three precepts:

Most People, regardless of expertise or experience, can recognize when a tire is flat.
When a vehicle has a flat tire, it is crippled, if not useless.
A flat tire will not repair itself.

Thus...

1 - Recognizing a tire is flat does not give one the skills, knowledge, or ability to repair it.

2 - Attempts to repair a flat tire by someone who is unqualified, can result in additional damage, sometimes more serious than the flat itself.

3 - Alerting others to the fact that the tire is flat does not obligate one to repair it, nor to provide alternatives to the use of the tire.

4 - The person responsible for the tire's condition is responsible for repairing the flat, replacing the tire, or arranging for someone with the Skills, Knowledge, and Ability (SKA) to do so.

5 - Inability to repair the tire does not change the fact that the tire is flat.

6 - Ignoring that the tire is flat due to the lack of the ability to repair it, nor an alternative to the tire's use, will not change the fact that it is flat.

7 - If the tire is not repaired or replaced it will remain flat.

8 - Adding additional flat tires will not impact the status of the original flat.

Hence all the training, SAREXs, WESS, etc., etc.

I'm starting training sessions tonight for a new group of Mission Scanners in my Squadron.

Maybe I'm too dense to see what you are getting at today.

For some reason I thought political discussions, even in code [aka "flat tire axion"], were verboten?  Regardless, there is wisdom in the words of the Elder Statesman.

I would say that if you have a flat tire, at some point your ORM and/or your pre-flight inspection was lacking.  :D

I'm not seeing any of that, but it just could be me as I'm not really plugged-into things..

We don't tolerate politically charged posts. In this case, I just don't see it. Maybe I'm clueless. Feel free to fill in the gaps if necessary.

His business card says he works for "Universal Exports" but he isn't allowed to say why he travels all the time.
