Hello all,

We in AZWG recently completed a video course that provides our estimation of the skill sets needed to be successful as a UFRO in accordance with draft regulation 70-1U v5 and while working with WIMRS in its current form. This course is meant to help you practice the unmanned flight release process as an exercise while 70-1U is still a draft. Please remember that 70-1U dictates:

"9.10.2.1  A flight release is required prior to departure for all CAP sUAS Sorties."

This is going to be a critical step very soon, so it would be wise to start practicing now.

We are currently working with the AZWG PIO to get the course on Youtube. I will post the link to that once it happens. Also, thank you in advance for any feedback you might have!

Nice presentation. As a note, if your Squadron/Wing does not have anyone specifically as a CAP sUAS Flight Release Officer yet, an existing FRO can release you.

I just shared it with everyone involved with sUAS in my Wing. Good info.

Cadets .... still looking at that issue. In our Wing no one flies the drones until they meet certain SQTR requirements. Specifically, all six FEMA courses and their Part 107 certificate.  If you let them "play" with the drones first, MOST will just never "get around" to those FEMA courses.

YMMV

6 FEMA courses to fly a drone is a bit absurd....

Thanks for the feedback and I hope it helps your wing! Good point about the FRO release. May have to add that as a mention in the description or edit in a part specifically speaking to that.

I went ahead and included the links to our UFRO quiz and UFRO checklist below.
