Just out of curiosity , comparing the factory specs to our 182's
what should be the TAS we should be seeing out this aircraft?
MFG states a top 150ktas.

I know we got the big as Becker Dome on the tail , and we are missing the wheel pants.. how much should these two items affect the aircraft?

i ask because I just went on a long transport, and being honest it wasn't that fast.

also if possible indicate your power/ prop settings..

I'll post here what speed i got after i get some replies.

In cruise at altitude, say 9,500 or 10,500 MSL I was seeing around 135-137 TAS prop at 2300 RPM and power all the way in with manifold pressure indicating, uh, I forget now... maybe 19-20 and leaned out nicely. Which is pretty much the book airspeed. Fast is relative :-) -- John

I need to drop another 50rpm then, I was doing about 128-132TAS at 8500 feet and it was leaned real good , power all the way in.

k, make sure those cowl flaps get closed, usually adds a few knots. Not that I ever, uh, personally you understand, forgot to do that ;-)

first thing i did and checked.

I am flying back Saturday i'll see if i can pick up some speed.

As a comparison, I fly a private 2008 182T that has wheel pants. I get high 130's KTAS with a couple of people on board at altitude (6-8k). I fly the plane at 23" or whatever I can get and 2200rpm. The POH claims and extra 3kts at 2300, but for the noise and smoothness, I like 2200.

I flew it into a stiff headwind one up with 30 usable at 6500' the other day at 2300 and was getting 144KTAS.

I would have thought the lack of pants and the becker penalized the CAP 182's 5-8kts but it doesn't sound like it is that much.

Well I flew the aircraft back from a long cross country

Found out that a prop setting of 2330 , and fuel rate of 11.8-12.1 gallons an hour at 9500 feet yielded a cruise speed of 135-139 knots. the Highest I ever saw was 142KTAS ( sustained over 15 minutes)

But i did see a difference between going through different air masses.

here we go. :)

thanks for the responses.

Nice, and I see that was with minimum tailwind component.

very small , in some cases i got around 5 knots of headwind.

it was erratic due to the storms around the area.
