Garmin came up with a way to upgrade steam. We have a *lot* of pre-2006 aircraft, and as far as FAA Certified glass is concerned, these are cheap.

That's pretty snazzy.
$4k for an attitude indicator.
Pretty neat.
Also not cheap. Steam gauges do work.
Can you get one with a mounted magnifying lens? Thats a lot of info in those tiny screens. These old eyes. LOL
(Admittedly spoiled rotten by CAP G1000 planes)

Its actually a complete PFD, through small. And it bluetooth connects with an Ipad. That one and the MFD are worth it - the rest perhaps not. In the example shown they could have installed those without removing anything - there are still two unused instrument mounting locations.
Though a much better solution is still to just take EVERYTHING out of the center panel and put a Garmin 750 in there. The round dials are too small.

A Garmin GTN 750 isn't a primary flight display - I don't think you can put one where the primary instruments are supposed to be!

Sure, just gotta get the folks at National Headquarters, CAP-USAF and Headquarters Air Force to go with it.
Because we're sure not going to be able to fund this stuff with just dues money. Gonna take some AF bucks too.

Thats why I said put it in the center. It replaces the nav/comm, DME, transponder and adf/marker beacons if the plane is that old. All of the round dial instruments remain.
It appears that this is just a display, and perhaps a "control box". Does it also contain the underlying transmitting and receiving equipment for the systems you mentioned?

A fancy Audio Control panel. Don't we have one already?

Friend of mine bought a plane last year to putz around in (She's a 737 captain by day) and of course, it had to get ADS-B'd by the end of the year.
Turns out one of the myriad of things they yanked out to put the new xpdr and ADS-B in was a LORAN receiver.
That had to be a conversation piece around the shop.

A GTN 750 is a single box that contains a WAAS IFR GPS, an air-band com radio, a VOR/LOC/GS nav radio as well as a color, high-resolution, touchscreen multifunctional display. Isn't technology wonderful?
It doesn't contain an ADF receiver, DME, transponder or an audio panel. If you want to save panel space, you can remote mount a GMA 35 (audio panel) and/or a GTX 3x5R (transponder) which can then be controlled from the GTN 750.

We pulled our LORAN back in 2011; still have it sitting in a box in the hangar. It generated so much discussion around the shop that we actually got calls from someone wanting to buy our plane because the mechanics all assumed we were doing the work to sell it.

Not needed with GPS. "GPS can be used in lieu of DME and ADF on all localizer-type approaches as well as VOR/DME approaches, including when charted NDB or DME transmitters are temporarily out of service. "
