Job Title: Technical Specialist, Small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) & AERONet Programs

Technical Specialist, Small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) & AERONet Programs: Provides direct mission support for CAP's Small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) and the AERONet Program, assists the Senior Program Manager in providing technical support to these critical programs. Supports tasks on a national level, where Civil Air Patrol (CAP) sUAS assets support DoD, federal, state, local, and other volunteer agencies. Assists in providing CAP sUAS mission support in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Provides, as needed, the maintenance, maintenance documentation, and technical support to the sUAS and AERONet Programs. Provides programmatic support for the sUAS program. Correlates data from various sources and interprets information from multiple databases to enhance technical support. Conducts shipping/receiving operations to support programs. Performs other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Ninety credit hours or a degree from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education is required.
Three years of experience in CAP and three years of comparable experience in a similar organization is required.
Must have commercial and government experience flying rotary or fixed-wing sUAS, preferably both.
Must have FAA Part 107 certification. Must have electronics repair and assembly training and experience.
Must have three years of teaching or training experience.
Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to work under pressure to meet short deadlines.
Excellent PC skills, including MS Excel, is required.
Must be able to work with individuals/units in the field with little or no supervision.
Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Some travel is required; some may be short notice travel.
Incumbent must possess or have the ability to maintain a Secret security clearance.
Accounting experience preferred; experience with electronic accounting systems like Navision preferred.
Bachelor's degree preferred.

Have you seen the cost of living in Montgomery? Ballpark guess would be the equivalent of $55,000 in my area
$43k in my neck of the woods is a pretty good salary. In my day job, I make about 25% less, and do fairly decently.
If I could move, I'd apply.
Never move for a job for less then 6 figures and only if it includes moving expenses.

In fairness, that's GS-7 (new graduate, maybe 1 year experience) money for a role that prefers a bachelors degree, a commercial drone license, multiple years of experience in training / unmanned aerial vehicles and also (apparently) ERP systems. I imagine it doesn't have any real ladder like your typical GS-7 role would have.
I've no doubt it's someone's idea of a great job, but I also wouldn't say it's objectively competitive.

(The US Department of Education does not accredit colleges or universities. Accreditation is done by regional or national accrediting agencies, all of them being non-governmental organizations).

Sometimes the hiring team already has specific person in mind so they write the job description and requirements list so that it precisely matches the skills of that individual, which then makes the hiring decision a slam-dunk.
