Please share this information with your members:  NHQs' Green Flag Group will begin training new personnel in December 2012 for the expanding SRPA (Surrogate Remotely-Piloted Aircraft) Program.  This unique opportunity is open to all members with military training and/or extensive CAP mission experience.

The SRPA program supports two major customers, the U.S. military and disaster response agencies.  The program was developed in response to the limitations imposed on the operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) within the United States.  Instead of being remotely controlled, our SRPA has a live crew on board, trained to the same standards as the crews controlling real RPAs in the military.  For our military customer, we gather intelligence and simulate weapons delivery, interfacing with air and ground assets.  For disaster response, we transmit live video to the response planners who analyze it for the allocation of assets.

We currently support over two dozen events per year, twenty of which are military Green Flag exercises held at bases in Louisiana and California.  CAP aircrews stay at facilities near these locations for approximately ten days.  The expectation is for accepted applicants to participate at least three times a year after training.  Note that the SRPA program's intent is to integrate participation with local CAP involvement - not to draw personnel away from local units.  This will not only require effort on each applicant's part, but also support from commanding officers.

Pilot qualifications are not necessary, but superior crew coordination skills are critical.  Much of our Green Flag flying is at night, in mountainous terrain, often with IFR conditions encountered.  We face complicated tactical situations, including maneuvering where live weapons are being delivered.  The intense military interface makes previous military experience invaluable.  Also note that many additional mission staff positions, Safety Officers, ICs, et al, are needed during exercises.  All skilled members are encouraged to apply. The completed forms must be received no later than 30 September 2012.

Very respectfully,

Wow. That's a lot of flying.
