Strange, ordered mine on the 6th and received the backorder notice.

Ordered two coins (one for myself and one as a gift to another attendee) on Aug 12th and they were immediately back-ordered.  Coins arrived today and they were #730 and #751.

I usually try to select interesting numbers (because I'm a math geek) so I'll probably keep #751 for myself since... well heck, it's a prime number.  ;D
Strange, I would have thought they would send them out in sequential order, I double checked and I did indeed order on the 6th, and when mine arrived it was #1000. Pretty cool to get an even number, but strange that I know of at least 3 people that ordered a day or two after me and received coins in the first run. My guess would be that maybe they prioritize larger orders, and since my order was only 3 items, maybe they waited a few days to fulfill and by then the first run coins were gone?

Not surprising... I picture all of the coins at Vanguard being dumped into a single bin and the order picker simply reaching in to grab x-number of coins that happen to stick to their little fingers.

Sad but true! In most (not VG) operations, if there is a limited number of items and they are individually numbered, don't they send them out based on the order purchased, so the first person to but one gets number one, or is that not how companies do things usually? As you can tell, I don't buy numbered items all that often.

I ordered on the 7th and it was in my P.O. Box today, 8/28. My coin is 0191.

On the Vanguard site originally it was 600 coins then 1200 and now it shows 1800.

Nice number. I always want 99 or lower but my coin is 0191 so that leads me to ask, why not 1191?

The original run had 4 digits, the coin that was given to the Morse Center is 0001, so I assume yours came from the first batch and not the second. My theory is they prioritized orders based on size, so although you ordered a day after me, you might have ordered more than me so your order was picked from the first batch and by the time they got to my order they were out? You're the third person I've seen who ordered a day after me and got the first batch so if you had a larger order that would make sense.

Holding Pattern

I got my coin batch in, and kept coin 0747.

PHall

Got my coin in, #0640. Sounds like there's a big tub of them and the pickers are just reaching in and grabbing whichever one they grab.

"And Saint Attila raised the Holy Hand Grenade up on high saying, "Oh Lord, Bless us this Holy Hand Grenade, and with it smash our enemies to tiny bits. And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs, and stoats, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and lima bean-"

" Skip a bit, brother."

"And then the Lord spake, saying: "First, shalt thou take out the holy pin. Then shalt thou count to three. No more, no less. "Three" shall be the number of the counting, and the number of the counting shall be three. "Four" shalt thou not count, and neither count thou two, execpting that thou then goest on to three. Five is RIGHT OUT. Once the number three, being the third number be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade to-wards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuffit. Amen."

I was always told a challenge coin is only a challenge coin if it is given to you, otherwise it is a souvenir. Many of us collect them, so while I won't carry this one around, I'll put it with all of the others I've collected over the years.

Yeah, Coins for things like conferences are like refrigerator magnets for when I travel the world. Nothing earned, but a keepsake to remember or keep track of where you've been or what you've done.

Challenge Coins, used to be a BIG DEAL back in the day. You carried your UNIT coin, not someone's personal coin, and if you didn't, it meant that you either hadn't earned one yet, or you're buying a round for the guys.

I have a personal coin that people must earn. I have a list of everyone I've presented my coin to that includes their name, unit, date, and their actions that warranted recognition. And my coin isn't issued for "excellence" or "outstanding performance", it's issued for "badassery."

Two, actually. Main one in the kitchen, and another one in the garage. Plus, my work fridge is a small dorm room style fridge that I actually started putting stickers on. When we moved from DC to OH, I put them all in a big Ziploc and never threw them back on the fridge.

BTW, as far as I can recall, I've been to 54 countries.
