Search Mission 14M0474A was opened 19 September and closed 20 September for an overdue Cessna 162 (Skycatcher) on a pleasure flight from Thermal (TRM) to Borrego (L08) with 1 Soul on Board.  The aircraft was reported missing not long after the pilot failed to return back to Thermal on time.  The San Diego Sheriff's department and CHP were contacted and started prosecuting the mission Friday afternoon with no results.

CAWG conducted a route and electronic search immediately upon notification and a ground team was dispatched to the LKP that had been provided by the CAP National RADAR Analysis Team.  The electronic and route search last night were negative.  The aircraft was located in the Borrego Badlands approximately 2.8 mi from the LKP at sunrise by a CAP aircrew.  The aircrew subsequently provided air-to-ground coordination with a CAP Ground Team, who were able to positively identify the aircraft before the Sheriff arrived on scene.  The incident was turned over to the San Diego Sheriff's department, who was extremely happy with the professional work of our members.  There was no survivor.
