Back a couple of years ago when I was a DDR Squadron Commander I was looking for ways to recognize individuals without the work involved sometimes in dealing with paperwork. When I was a Deputy Sheriff about 11 years ago I was given the Medal for Patriotism through the American Police Hall of Fame. The good thing about this is that you dont have to be a Police/Deputy or Law Enforcement to qualify. The only downside to this is it does cost a little money to submit. I have put some people in for the same and received all of them and presented. It is not a CAP award but it is a nice token or jesture. I am providing a link to the website.

Does anyone else have any similiar outside forms of recognition they can share?

Any CAP unit can sign up to be a certifying agency to award the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.  Our Group HQ is a certifying agency.

Edit to add:  Also, don't forget about the Points of Light volunteer awards.
