Wow just read this and a couple other articles.  Turns out that Lee Harvey Oswald, the suspected JFK assassin was a former Civil Air Patrol commander at his New Orleans Squadron.  Must read.

Lee Harvey Oswald in CAP? <facepalm>

Why is this not coming out until 2013?

The article states Captain Ferrie, John Irion, and Gladys Durr were the commanders during the time period.
Never does it say Oswald was a commander, just that he was in CAP for a brief time period.
Nothing to see here folks.

This isn't just coming out, it's been widely known, at least in CAP circles, for decades... at least since the 80s, maybe earlier.

I believe he was a cadet, not sure  how long he belonged.

Yea he wasn't a commander, I misread the article.  But apparently no one really noticed him because as the actual C/CC said "he had a knack for not being noticed.."

What, alt.conspiracy.jfk is not a reliable source of record?

Nothing says "cutting edge research" better then an 18 year old, grammatically challenged Usenet article.

It's a .edu, so it must be a valid source for credible information.

He was a CADET -- Never a commander. Take a gander:

cantthinkof1

Regardless of the article, it is a fact that Lee Harvey Oswald, the suspected assassin of JFK, was a Civil Air Patrol cadet, although he was not very dedicated.

cantthinkof1

It seems Cadet Oswald missed some important Character Development classes...lol

Wish we could get beyond this tragic piece of history.

Assassination of anyone let alone an American President is not something to "lol" at.

lee was a cadet. he did not shoot anything on the day of the assasination, as powder tests administered by the pd indicated. he was set up because he had been working with je hoover shutting down the cuban training camps being run by the cia. ferrie was to fly him out of the dallas area. lee may well have been a very dedicated citizen.
all of this and more was in a thread i posted a few years ago, with over three thousand views, but it was removed from the forum.
